The Climate Change Mitigation Strategy consists of a total of 44 actions, representing a total investment of more than 94.8 million euros between 2019 until the 2030 horizon. The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, participated today in the Environmental Café, the meeting organized with the members of the Association of Environmental Companies of the Region of Murcia (EEA), in which he informed that from the City Council of Murcia it has been marked as objective to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere by about one million tons in the 2030 horizon.
This objective is part of the Municipal Strategy for Climate Change Mitigation, which was presented this morning to environmental entrepreneurs, the document that includes the set of measures and actions to be developed until the 2030 horizon, with which “we intend to achieve energy savings of 38%, an increase of 330% in the use of renewable energy, and the decrease of 939,000 tCO2 in the municipality (44% less than in 2007) over the next decade â€.
This roadmap consists of a total of 44 actions organized in 7 areas, representing a total investment of more than 94.8 million euros between 2019 and the 2030 horizon.
Global action plan: 'Murcia Clean Air'
“Murcia, as the seventh capital of Spain and among the top 100 in Europe, faces environmental challenges with a global action plan: the 'Clean Air' strategy, which stands on two strong pillars: the commitment to our environment and the active participation of the different social groups that form Murcian civil society, â€said José Ballesta.
'Murcia Aire Limpio' includes actions such as those included in the Climate Change Mitigation Strategy, the free pruning service to huertanos to avoid agricultural burns, which we have implemented in collaboration with ASAJA;
the gradual renewal of the bus fleet and acquisition of new vehicles powered by biofuels, hybrids or electric vehicles;
creation of deterrent parking lots;
periodic checks of gas emissions from vehicles in circulation, together with the Ecological Patrol of the Local Police (more than 1,000 vehicles per year);
pedestrianization of 252,000 m2 and 4 restricted traffic areas (267 streets);
the Greenway;
new network of bike lanes;
Electric Vehicle strategy;
2030 Forest Plan and sustainable lighting, among other measures.
