The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has visited this morning the public school Cierva Peñafiel to participate together with the students of this center in the new campaign of recycling of glass that during these days is being developed in the municipality 'Encesta glass , we all win. '
Thus, during this week the initiative will reach a total of 813 schoolchildren from, CEIP Carolina Codorniú de Churra, CEIP Pedro Pérez Abadía de Espinardo, CEIP San Félix de Zarandona, CEIP Ntra. Mrs. de la Fuensanta de Beniaján, CEIP Ciudad de la Paz de El Palmar, CEIP Isabel Bellvis de Corvera and Marist College La Fuensanta.
The 'Encesta glass, we all win' campaign began on Monday in the city of Murcia, where five vinyl containers have been installed with the campaign that will remain until next Sunday, on Liberty Avenue, Glorieta, Alfonso X, Plaza de the University and Plaza Santa Isabel.
"We present this innovative campaign in schools because we know that students are not only the future, they are also the transmitting agents of everything learned in the activities that, together with Ferrovial Services, we propose year after year to disseminate sustainable models of consumption, use and their final elimination in the right place. And this time the glass serves as an example for us as a model of Circular Economy. Not only do we learn that glass becomes new containers again, but it has infinite lives, one of them, a clue of basketball, "said Pérez.
The objective of this unique initiative is to mobilize citizens to deposit the glass in the corresponding container and win the challenge: Ecovidrio will reform a basketball court with materials that come from the processing and recycling of glass containers, the first of these characteristics that there will be in the Region.
In the challenge 12 municipalities compete and the prize will be for the one who gets more glass containers.
The glass that is deposited in the containers is 100% recycled and is used for the manufacture of new containers, indefinitely and without losing the original properties.
Recycling glass is a key element in the fight against climate change.
By using calcine - recycled glass - in the manufacture of new containers, the extraction of raw materials from nature is avoided, avoiding soil erosion and deforestation of our environment.
In addition, the emission of CO2 in the manufacturing process is minimized and energy is saved.
The recycling of glass is a reality already consolidated in Murcia and that increases every day thanks to the commitment of the citizens.
The data indicate this to us since between January and September of last year 5,143,370 kilos were collected, while in the same period of this current year, 5,602,009 kilos have been collected, which represents an increase of one 8.92%.
With this initiative, progress is being made to continue making Murcia a more sustainable city and committed to the environment.
