The University of Murcia (UMU), in collaboration with the NGO Coordinator of the Region of Murcia, presented last Thursday night the prizes of the National Short Competition on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), called 'CortODS' .
A total of 92 short films from all over Spain participated in this initiative that collected dozens of individual and collective shows, framed in compliance with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, in pieces that denounced the breach of any of the 17 SDGs.
In the regional category, the members of the Casa Europa Association won the prize, in which the municipalities of Cehegín, Bullas and Calasparra participate.
A group of 50 students between 14 and 22 years of these three municipalities made the short film There is not Planet B, which reflects the consequences of the climatic emergency through which our planet passes and shows its effects, such as water scarcity and excessive use of plastics.
While in the national category the prize went to photojournalists Santiago Palacios and Mikel Conate, thanks to the multimedia documentary 'Coming Ashore'.
This short film makes a complete graphic coverage of the Eastern Mediterranean migration route.
Palacios and Conate combined video, photography and voice 'off' to show the risk that thousands of people face when trying to reach European shores in search of refuge across the Greek island of Lesbos, and how many of them lose their lives in the attempt.
The collaboration with the Autonomous Community, the municipality of Molina de Segura and the ODSesiones project of the University of Murcia has allowed to establish these prizes endowed each with 600 euros.
In addition, other organizations such as the Regional Film Library, Unicef Autonomous Committee of Murcia, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the Murcia production company Twin Freaks have collaborated.
