The play 'Don Juan Tenorio' returns for the thirtieth consultative year to the stage of the Romea Theater by the company Cecilio Pineda.
The Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, along with the director of the company, Julio Navarro, presented this morning the play that will be performed from October 30 to November 3.
This play, written by José Zorrilla over 160 years ago, has been performed consecutively since 1989.
With more than 40 actors on stage, it has more than 100 costumes from the well-known tailor's shop Cornejo in Madrid, and with decorations from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
The action of 'Don Juan Tenorio' is located in Seville in 1545, during the reign of Carlos V. Don Juan Tenorio has won a bet on Don Luis Mejía to know who would work worse for a year.
Don Luis, not satisfied with the result, again challenges the protagonist, proposing to seduce a novice without confessing.
It will be Doña Inés, who, unexpectedly, Don Juan will fall in love with madness.
The Cecilio Pineda Company has its origin in 1907, when a Murcian of the same name, born in Espinardo, decides to represent for the first time, at the Romea Theater in Murcia, the character of Don Juan, from the play Don Juan Tenorio de José Zorrilla
He was 24 years old on that date.
Since November 1989, this company has been representing without interruption and every year with greater number of performances, thanks to the collaboration of the City of Murcia, which reserves the Romea Theater on traditional dates for this event.
The tradition of staging Tenorio on All Saints' Day is kept by few cities.
The most respectful with this custom is Murcia, where the Cecilio Pineda Company represents it since 1907.
The schedules of the 5 representations, whose tickets will cost between 12 and 18 euros, are the following:
Wednesday, October 30 - 9 pm
Thursday, October 31 - 9 p.m.
Friday November 1 - 19 hours
Saturday, November 2 - 9 pm
Sunday November 3 - 19 hours
