The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, and the Councilor for Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism, Pedro García, attended this morning the inauguration of the symposium 'The Modernity of Ramón Gaya' , cultural event that is being held at the Prado Museum through conferences and round tables.
During the inauguration of the symposium, the mayor of Murcia, accompanied by Isabel Verdejo, widow of the Murcian artist, and the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Prado National Museum, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos, stressed that “in his pictorial work, in literature and in his essays and writings, Ramón Gaya expressed a free and independent criterion, always committed to intellectual, social and moral progress. â€
José Ballesta added that “he was an artist of restless personality, far from dogmatism and sectarianism, who in his condition of exile had painting as a true homeland, the Prado Museum being his strongest reference, as he left written in 'Roca Española' , one of his texts. "
The symposium, free entry, is one of the activities that have aroused most interest in the events of the Bicentennial of the National Museum of the Prado.
More than 300 people have attended this morning to the inauguration of this great event, which also coincides with the XXIX Anniversary of the Ramón Gaya Museum.
The event was attended by members of the Municipal Corporation, the director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Murcia Santa María de la Arrixaca, Cristóbal Belda, the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Prado National Museum, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos, in addition to members of the Ramón Gaya Museum Board, such as Manuel Borrás, editor of Valencia Pre-Texts and Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture in 2016, and Isabel Verdejo, widow of the Murcian artist.
More activities to honor the Murcian painter in Madrid
This afternoon, the Prado National Museum will host two papers framed within the symposium.
Specifically, this morning two conferences have been held, as well as the screening of 'La Serenissima', by Gonzalo Ballester, a documentary finalist in the Goya 2007 awards.
The symposium will conclude tomorrow, day in which three presentations and a round table will be held.
Also, to commemorate the XXIX Anniversary of the Ramón Gaya Museum, in Murcia the exhibition 'The palette of the old painters is also being celebrated.
