Once the hiring has been carried out, the winning team will write the material execution project that will subsequently be put out to public tender for the start of works.
The Burgos & Garrido studio has carried out the Madrid Río project while the Ayllón Paradela de Andrés office will be in charge of the Ceuta Real Wall Interpretation Center project
The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, and the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, attended this morning the opening ceremony of the competition to recover the San Esteban site, which took place at the General Directorate of Architecture of the Ministry of Development in Madrid.
During the event it has been revealed that the project 'HA-HA', has been drafted by the UTE formed by the Madrid architecture studio Ayllón Paradela de Andrés and the international architecture and landscaping office, also in Madrid, Burgos and Garrido, having result unanimously chosen among the 35 proposals submitted to the jury of the contest of ideas convened by the Ministry of Development for the recovery of the Arrabal de la Arrixaca.
The Burgos & Garrido office was founded in 2002 in Madrid and some of its award-winning projects are Madrid Río or the New Gallery of the Museum of Art of Lima.
For its part, the Ayllón Paradela de Andrés studio has also been selected as the first prize in the Project Competition for the rehabilitation of the Baluarte de la Bandera and attached vaults for use as the Interpretation Center of the Royal Walls of Ceuta, and they have received other prizes such as the contest of projects for the Green Apple of Malaga, the rehabilitation of the Palace of Cortiguera for cultural uses of Santander, and the Romanesque Interpretation Center of the Rioja Alta in Treviana (La Rioja).
The jury has assessed "the scheme in section of the proposal, which allows to solve with a unique and very simple gesture the appearance of the visuals to the site, the natural lighting of the excavation and the free height necessary for the level below ground. get a friendly public space that in turn guarantees the value of the site ".
Once the contract has been made, the winning team will write the material execution project that will subsequently be put out to public tender for the start of works that will be extended for a maximum period of 24 months.
However, part of these works are advanced in the execution phase of archaeological works in the different phases executed by the University of Murcia.
This action implies, according to the budget estimated by the winning team, an investment of 17,357,361 euros and will be co-financed between the state, regional and municipal administration.
The proposed action is understood as a large autonomous cover that protects the archaeological site of the Arrabal Andalusí de la Arrixaca, while recovering the space above ground level as a large tree-lined square for walking and enjoyment with large open areas.
The whole as a whole is understood as a great center of interpretation, allowing to perceive at all times the historical ruins from the contemporary urban plot that surrounds the whole thanks to the perimeter void that is generated around the new public space.
The ha-ha or 'wolf jump' is used in landscape design to create a vertical barrier while offering an uninterrupted view of the landscape.
The project recovers and recreates the old Garden of San Esteban making it float on the archaeological site of the Arrabal de la Arrixaca.
In its perimeter, an urban ha-ha delimits, protects and at the same time makes visible from the streets of the city the constructed traces of its own history.
The action is conceived at all times from the physical and visual continuity with the urban plot, thus ensuring the permeability of the whole.
In the same way, it attends to the history and tradition of the place, recalling and reinterpreting the old Garden of San Esteban through a simple and clear action that seeks to respond to the climate of the area from the tradition of the Andalusian gardens.
The proposed plantation rests on a large concrete plate that contains a section of land capable of accommodating large trees in order to provide shade to the area.
Thus, melies, Canary palms and upholsteries such as rosemary and lavender will be planted
During the day, the large flared cleft surrounding the site leads to the intense Mediterranean light.
During the night, a slight glare of artificial light will bathe the site and escapes faintly to the outside bathing the vegetable slopes, making them visible from the streets.
At the same time, this same gesture allows the correct natural cross ventilation of the entire site, preventing the growth of lichen in the ruins and protecting it from rainwater at all times.
The recovery of the San Esteban site is a strategic project of the Municipal Government Team that intends to return 23,000 square meters of public space to Murcia, thus enabling an international cultural and tourist resource.
In San Esteban a project is being developed that will include the recovery of the square, as a space for recreation and coexistence of the Murcia, and the enhancement of the Arab ruins, which will allow us to contemplate what was the Murcia of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries , walk through its streets, observe their homes and public spaces, as well as the utensils used by Murcia in their daily lives 800 years ago.
