The city of Murcia will host the Iberian Docomomo congress in 2020, under the title 'Architecture and environment: the Mediterranean', to enhance the value of regional modern architectural heritage.
This was announced today by the Director General of Housing, José Francisco Lajara, and the dean of the College of Architects, María José Peñalver, during the placement of one of the first three Docomomo plates in the Region, in the Vitalicio Bank Building, which will be followed by the Santa María del Carmen school, both in the city of Murcia, and Los Miradores de La Manga del Mar Menor.
This act is part of the celebration of the Architecture Week of the Region of Murcia in which Lajara highlighted "the great quality of the activities organized this year", among which he stressed the failure of the XX edition of the Architecture Awards.
Docomomo is an international organization created in 1990 with the objective of inventorying, disseminating and protecting the highlights of the architecture of the Modern Movement. In 1993 the Iberian Docomomo subsidiary was created that, together with various entities and institutions, works in the field of Spain and Portugal with the same objectives as Docomomo.
The congress, which will bring together a large number of professionals from all over Europe, will study the architecture of the 20th century so that it becomes a tool in order to improve the living conditions of the present and the future.
