The University of Murcia presented this Monday the 'I Prize for the best doctoral thesis on gender equality' to Sara Sánchez Peñas for the work "Adherence to antiretroviral treatment in women with HIV / AIDS. Mixed study", endowed with 1,200 Euros

The winning thesis analyzes the degree of compliance with antiretroviral treatment in women with AIDS and tries to identify, from a gender perspective, the factors that influence it to be low.

The work aims to guide future nursing interventions that favor a better quality of life for these women, as well as to detect how a series of factors that have to do with gender (such as violence, discrimination and stigmatization) negatively influence Treatment compliance.

On the other hand, two accésits have been delivered to Pedro Parra Ibáñez, for the thesis "Budgetary Gender Indicators: the State of Budget Expenditures of the UMU";

and Diego Fernández Gómez, for the work "Transformations in gender relations and identities in international return migration in the urban-coastal space of Ecuador".

Carmen Sánchez Trigueros, director of the Unit for Equality between Women and Men of the UMU, said that this award seeks to recognize and promote excellence in work on gender equality or research that incorporates a gender perspective from any scientific perspective.

"There have been ten theses that have attended this first edition of the award, which have been defended within the framework of seven doctoral programs. Among the participants, there are seven women and three men," he added.

Rector Luján has closed the event, who has reaffirmed the commitment of the University of Murcia with the value of equality and has indicated that, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, the project 17 ODSessions UMU dedicates the October to objective number 5: Gender Equality.
