On the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women that is celebrated on October 15, the City of Murcia has organized a day aimed at women in rural areas, in order to know the Sustainable Development Goals, deepening those that are related to the Environment such as climate change, protection of the planet, or sustainable consumption, among others.
Thus, next Thursday, October 10, the village of Corvera will host the V Day of rural women, under the name 'Gender equality and sustainable development in rural areas'.
This initiative seeks different objectives such as facilitating a meeting space between the different women's associations of the municipality, making visible the work of women in the Rural Environment in Sustainable Development, knowing the concrete measures of the National Plan for the promotion of women in the environment rural and publicize experiences of empowerment of women in rural areas.
The Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, explained that "this is one of the different actions that, from the City of Murcia, we carry out for the promotion of gender equality and the promotion of women in the municipality of Murcia through the impulse to the women's associative movement, in order to combat gender discrimination and promote the participation of women in all areas of life, among others, as reflected in the II Plan for Equal Opportunities between women and men of the municipality of Murcia ".
In the Action Plan in Spain 2018-2020, for the UN 2030 Agenda, work has been done to promote integrated agricultural production and ecological agriculture and livestock through agreements with the autonomous communities and local entities within the framework of the Rural Development Law.
It is intended to promote the responsibility and role of women in sustainable development activities related to primary production systems.
In the organization and this day, organized by the Department of Social and Family Rights, the Municipal Board of Corvera, the Corvera Women's Center and the Association of Families and Women of the Rural Environment of the Region of Murcia collaborate.
