The Teatro Circo, the first in Spain to implement the intelligent accessibility system through mobile phones (03/10/2019)

Thanks to the NaviLens technology from Murcia, the theater offers adapted information about its services to people with difficulties in comprehension, hearing and visual impairment.

Users can receive the information through three free mobile applications.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, and the Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, today presented the project 'Accessible Culture' at the Teatro Circo de Murcia, with the that the new NaviLens accessibility system has been implemented in this performing arts center, allowing people with visual, auditory and cognitive disabilities to receive information about theater programming and services through an intelligent mobile device.

“All the information of the Circus Theater has been adapted to easy reading, auditory messages and videos in sign language, this being the first time that a performing arts space incorporates NaviLens technology in Spain, improving the quality of life and autonomy of people with disabilities through technology, â€said the mayor of Murcia, who added that“ the Teatro Circo de Murcia has become a reference space in terms of accessibility, an example to be replicated in other cultural centers of similar characteristics â€.

Specifically, people with cognitive disabilities may receive information adapted to easy reading;

deaf people, to Spanish language videos of signs;

and visually impaired people will be able to obtain auditory information.

Steps to follow

In order for users to access theater information, it is necessary to download one of the three free mobile applications that make up this project - Mefacilyta, NaviLnes and NaviLens Go -, which have been programmed to access adapted information by reading of QR codes and BIDI codes.

In this way, when users use these applications, their mobile phones will scan the labels that have been distributed by the Circus Theater, accessing the adapted information.

The applications, which are also available for tablets, are capable of scanning the labels at a distance of up to 15 meters.

The 'Accessible Culture' project, promoted by the Astrapace association and the Neosistec company, has been funded by the Vodafone Spain Foundation.

Professionals and people with disabilities from the Astrapace association and professionals from the company Neosistec have participated in the development of the adapted content.

Both NaviLens and NaviLens Go have been developed by the Neosistec company.

Route through the theater via mobile

Thanks to this technology, blind people can also access a guide to visit the theater facilities through the NaviLens application, being able to move, for example, from the theater entrance to their seat following the information provided to them.

Other users can also use this function through the NaviLens GO application.

For their part, people with intellectual disabilities will be able to access the information adapted through pictograms, with which they will be able to identify the different types of performances that are represented in the theater.

Digital Transformation Projects

For the second consecutive year, the Astrapace association participated in the 2018-19 Digital Transformation Projects call, organized by the Vodafone Spain Foundation, in which it was chosen as one of the Spanish entities that would receive funding to develop its project.

The place chosen by Astrapace to implement 'Accessible Culture', its project, was the Circus Theater.

Towards a 100% accessible Murcia

The City of Murcia was the first in Spain to implement the new system for the visually impaired NaviLens in the urban bus fleet of Murcia and also in the complete tram line of the city.

NaviLens was born as a pioneering signage system with which blind people could be guided by a slight hand movement in which they hold their smart mobile, a Murcian project that sought to improve the quality of life of its users.
