Color, freshness and optimism characterize the creations of the sculptor Felipao, artistic name behind which Felipe García-Bañón hides (Madrid, 1970).
His novel figures of dogs, expenses or skulls have led him to become an essential of contemporary art in our country, and next October 10 he presents at the Real Casino de Murcia his vision of a universal artistic concept: Las Meninas de Velázquez.
'Casino Royale' is the title of the exhibition, which can be seen in the Central Gallery until October 31, 2019.
“Velázquez has been the best painter in history, I wanted to pay tribute to him with a reinterpretation of his masterpiece,†says Felipao, who will show a 448-sided polyhedral sculpture, in different sizes and striking colors and prints, as well as other His most representative works.
After ten years working in a pharmaceutical multinational, Felipao decided to let out the artist inside, and thanks to Poppi, his characteristic sculpture of the French bulldog, he achieved fame.
Queen Sofia or the Koplowitz sisters have works by the artist, as well as many well-known names of the Spanish socialite: Carmen Martínez-Bordiú, Fiona Ferrer or Boris Izaguirre, among others.
The artist feels especially linked to the Real Casino de Murcia, and that is why he wanted to show his creations here.
“I spent a large part of my childhood in my grandmother's house (Inés Bañón) who lived in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, we came many times to the Casino.
I think it's the most beautiful building in Murcia and one of the most elegant casinos in Spain, â€says the author, who admired the processions of Murcia Holy Week from his grandmother's balcony.
“It was my first contact with Salzillo, which always excites me,†he acknowledges.
With this exhibition Felipao intends "for the public to see that there are possibilities to reinvent a concept or an aesthetic in a different way".
His works have traveled around the world, showing themselves in numerous countries.
