The diocesan priest Julián García López has died today, at age 91, at the Residence Hogar de Nazaret of the Missionary Sisters of the Sagrada Familia, in Rincón de Seca (Murcia).
His mortal remains are being veiled in the Tanatorio de Jesús de Murcia and the funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow Saturday, at 11:00 a.m., in the parish of San Pedro Apóstol de Murcia.
Julián García was born in Orihuela on March 10, 1928 and was baptized the next day in the parish of El Salvador in the same town.
He studied as a Jesuit and was ordained a priest by the Bishop of Orihuela, Mons. José García Goldaraz, in the Parish of Our Lady of Belén de Crevillente, on June 14, 1953.
In 1964, he was incardinated in the Diocese of Facatativá (Colombia) where he developed his pastoral work.
Later, in 1976, he moved to the Diocese of Madrid-Alcalá, in which he was incardinated on March 25, 1982.
After five years in Madrid, Julián García, asked to exercise his ministry in the Diocese of Cartagena to Mons. Javier Azagra Labiano, Bishop of Cartagena, incarnate in this Diocese on July 15, 1991.
Since his arrival in the Diocese of Cartagena he held the following pastoral positions:
- 1987-1988: Cooperator of the Parish of San Basilio el Grande de Murcia.
- 1988-1995: Pastor of The Sacred Heart of Jesus of Ribera de Molina (Molina de Segura).
- 1995-1996: Parish priest of Santo Cristo de las Penas de Barqueros (Murcia) and La Purísima Concepción de Casas Nuevas (Murcia).
- 1996-2003: Pastor of Our Lady of Remedies of Albudeite.
- 1999-2006: Parish priest of San Juan Bautista of La Puebla de Mula (Mula) and in charge of the church of the Immaculate Bath of Mula (Mula).
- In 2006, he joined the Residence Hogar de Nazaret of the Missionary Sisters of the Sagrada Familia, where, since 2011, he was a chaplain.
