The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, held a meeting on Tuesday with the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras;
also attended by the Minister of Employment, Research and Universities, Miguel Motas;
and the general director of Universities, Josefa García León.
The meeting is part of the institutional courtesy contacts after the launch of the new government of the Autonomous Community.
Luján stressed that this meeting, "one week after the official opening ceremony of the Public Universities course", has served to raise "some of the issues that will have to work in the coming months for the best achievement of common objectives for both the Government and the University of Murcia. "
The rector of the UMU has highlighted among these objectives the improvement of student training and the need to advance in the field of research.
The rector has been convinced that "the harmony between the Autonomous Community and the University is important because we know what we can gain from the collaboration and we are willing to work side by side for the good of the Region."
Luján has emphasized the need to align the training offer with the needs of the productive sector, especially with regard to masters.
Also, the rector has insisted on the duty that universities have to transfer to society the results of research as a driver of social and economic development.
José Luján has taken advantage of the meeting to invite the president and counselor to the joint opening ceremony of the course of the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, which will be held on October 1.
Professor Pablo Artal, National Research Prize, will be responsible for conducting the inaugural lesson.
