The Hemicycle of the Faculty of Letters, on the campus of La Merced, of the University of Murcia, hosts today and tomorrow the First National Congress of Cabos at the Festival of Moors and Christians.
For two days, the figure of this character will be analyzed in some deep-rooted parties in the Region of Murcia.
The first deputy mayor, Mario Gómez, on behalf of the City of Murcia, has chaired and closed the opening ceremony of this national event, whose table also involved the president of the National Union of Festive Entities (UNDEF) , Pepa Prats;
the doctor of the Faculty of Letters of the UMU, José Luis Giménez;
the president of Area VI of the UNDEF, Alfonso Gálvez;
and the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco.
The event was also attended by the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén.
The first deputy mayor has welcomed the speakers and participants and highlighted the relevance of an event of this nature to enhance the image and work of an essential figure such as the cape in these parties.
"We are extremely proud that the National Union of Festive Entities has chosen our municipality to hold a congress of these characteristics," said Mario Gomez, who has invited attendees to enjoy this weekend's "rich cultural heritage of Murcia, its cuisine and the love of its people â€.
For his part, Jesús Pacheco wanted to highlight the importance of this congress also for those populations that join this party, "because this is the first time that this topic, its music and the relevance of marking the step will be addressed".
The Congress has started early with two presentations: "The importance of music for the end" and "It starts as a cultural aspect in parades."
This afternoon continues with the 'Presence and strength of women in the direction of squads', by Arancha Arce';
and a round table in which the character of the corporal will be analyzed in the Moors and Christians festivities, where Primitivo Gil Sauco, Francisco Santoja Gisbert, Antonio Torreblanca Algarra, Francisco López Pérez and Pepa Prats will participate.
The program will continue tomorrow, Sunday, from 10.30 am, in the Plaza de Armas of the Artillery Barracks, where there will be a contest and an exhibition of capes and their squads.
"Speakers and representatives from all over Spain, linked to the festival of Moors and Christians, meet these days in the city of Murcia, so it is a pride that we welcome this first national congress," describes Councilman José Guillén.
This first congress will end, around 2 pm, with a brotherhood meal at the Artillery Barracks.
