The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, has received this morning Erasmus students from Genoa in the framework of the twinning between Murcia and the city.
The mayor wanted to know closely these students who have begun their studies this week in Murcia, where they will remain throughout the first semester.
The mayor has held a meeting with them "in order to be welcomed in a special way by this sister city."
"From the City Council we support this type of experience and encourage more and more Genoese students to choose this city as a destination for their Erasmus stay," says the councilor.
Mercedes Bernabé has introduced them to the history that frames these bonds of union and has given them a book of Murcian gastronomy, as well as a collection of 'El Quijote' stickers.
"Murcia and Genoa share, in addition to the Mediterranean culture that frames its climate, its landscape, its gastronomy and ethnographic, deep and historical ties that date back to the twelfth century in the reign of Ibn Mardanish, known as 'The Wolf King'", Mercedes Barnabas explains.
For their part, the students have agreed on the similarities between both cities and have expressed some of their first impressions of Murcia.
Mainly they have emphasized the tranquility, the security, the proximity of its people and the climate.
In addition, the councilor said that "currently Murcia and Genoa share European projects, such as sustainable mobility with the ELECRA project (Electric City Transport), citizen participation in the revitalization of neighborhoods (Urban DNA) or the City brand â€.
“The twinning between both cities goes beyond the relations between consistories, also covering the bilateral relations between other institutions such as universities, with the exchange of our students,†highlights Mercedes Bernabé.
