The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, directed by José Guillén, will use the reeds removed from the river as organic compost of the parks and gardens of the municipality.
Thus, all the remnants of bardomeras that were extracted from the channel will be passed through the bi-shredder in order to reduce those remains that will later be used in the green areas
In total, more than 1,000 cubic meters of reeds were removed in 200 construction containers.
This action also entails an economic saving of 140,000 euros since each of these containers implies a cost of 700 euros in landfill fees.
The measure has numerous advantages for gardens such as moisture conservation, water saving, soil improvement and visual appearance, respecting the 'green cycle' of nature and taking care of the environment.
Specifically, with this work methodology, numerous advantages are achieved:
- Water saving by creating a padded layer that retains moisture, which is an improvement for the space where it is deposited.
- A structural improvement of the soil by providing minerals and nutrients that create what is known as a 'green manure'.
- Prevents weed growth by serving as a barrier for germination to reach the soil surface.
- Visual improvement of the green areas that are more uniform and aesthetically pleasing to the citizens who pass by them every day.
