This technique, called 'topiary', is performed to allow greater visibility to vehicles that circulate on the roads.
The decorative performances are carried out in the specimens that are located in roundabouts and medium.
"What we are not looking for is that our plants and shrubs serve as an example of beauty not only with its flowers or its colors, but also showing different artistic forms," explains the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén.
The City of Murcia continues to beautify the different green areas of the municipality for which it has decided, another year, to carry out pruning work in more than 300 tree species, a performance known as 'topiaria' that consists of making different artistic forms .
"What we are looking for is that our plants and shrubs serve as an example of beauty not only with its flowers or its colors, but also showing different artistic forms," explains the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén.
Specifically, it is working in three types of forms: plate, cylinder or mushroom.
"This is how to turn the roundabouts and medians of the municipality into green works of art, that embellish our access and make our city more beautiful," said the councilor.
Right now there are more than 1,700 tree species in the municipality of Murcia, although only these types of decorative actions are carried out in which they are in roundabouts and medium, just over 300.
Its advantages are numerous, such as allowing greater visibility of the vehicles that circulate through a roundabout, preventing the fall of branches, raising roots, a lower volume and ultimately greater visibility coupled with beauty.
Among the different places where you can see this type of specimens and its particular pruning, called 'topiaria', are the medians of Miguel Induraín (Puente Baconos) with more than 150, Sangonera la Verde with more than 50 copies, the knot with City of Almería with 25 or the Round of the Arrixaca with 6.
Murcia has more than twenty professionals from the STV Gestión concessionaire that carry out more than five pruning activities throughout the year, especially in the months in which these specimens grow, such as spring and summer .
