The PSOE criticizes the City Council boasting of a surplus while the municipality police do not have cars to patrol (09/09/2019)

"While in Zaragoza, Palma de Mallorca or Malaga they have a police officer for approximately 630 inhabitants, in Murcia we have approximately one police officer for every 1,000 inhabitants," explains Councilwoman Franco.

The Municipal Socialist Group regrets that the Local Police are currently going through a critical moment, in which agents fear for their own personal safety.

The police force has been warning for years of the lack of resources and staff that have been dragging, while the City Council continues to offer no solutions and exculpating the situation, based on excuses such as the retirement decree.

"It seems to us an insult to the intelligence to insist that the decrease of agents in the body due to the decree that has led to retirement from 65 to 60 years is the culprit of the unfortunate situation in which the police find themselves" laments Teresa Franco.

"The only thing that denotes this is a lack of planning in the government team."

"The retirement decree is also applicable in cities such as Malaga and Zaragoza, capitals of towns similar to Murcia, and in which the number of agents rises to 1000 and 881, respectively, compared to the 485 we have in our municipality" , explains the socialist mayor.

This translates into a much higher police ratio per inhabitant in Murcia.

"While in Zaragoza, Palma de Mallorca or Malaga they have a police officer for approximately 630 inhabitants, in Murcia we have approximately one police officer for every 1,000 inhabitants," says Councilwoman Franco.

"The police response rates are in some cases higher than the time. In addition, there is a deficiency in security protocols such as those that occur before armed or gender-based violence," Teresa Franco warns.

"We are not going to allow the package to drip for longer. This is not a matter of 80 agents retiring this year. It is a fundamental problem. We continue to have empty barracks without sufficient police force, new police units such as the tourism, but we still have the same number of agents, the neighborhood police, schools, especially those located in districts, have disappeared, they no longer have security for their entry and exit times, there are 28 cars waiting for repairs and cleaning, Murcia has a total of 217 agents less than last year ... What has to happen for the City Council to address these deficiencies? "Franco denounces.

Given all these demands, the government team responds with "poor and childish excuses," Franco says.

"It has happened that summer has delayed everything," the government team told the media about paralyzed patrol cars.

"It seems to us that there is a tremendous lack of seriousness that, in the face of such serious problems, is answered with such simple arguments. We should have an annual contract for the washing and repair of vehicles and not jump to the bush."

In this regard, in June 2018, the PSOE already filed a motion about the situation of abandonment of the Local Police cars, a motion that was approved with the votes against the Popular Party.

On that occasion, Councilwoman Maruja Pelegrín, now a regional deputy, said it was a punctual situation, "however, the facts say otherwise. Not only has it not been about something punctual but a year later it remains unresolved and with more patrol cars disabled. "

"To all this is added the aggravation of the lack of responses of the Government team of the City Council. It is clear that he does not want to talk about the issue. From the Socialist Municipal Group we are still awaiting an answer to the latest internal communication concerning the police. issued on August 28 and we were asking about the police device available during the dates of the Murcia Fair destined for the districts. We will sit and wait because the answer seems to be long, "Franco says.
