Murcia will be the international capital of Parks and Gardens in April 2020 (09/09/2019)

The city will host the Congress 'Murcia, Spring Gardens: Blue Infrastructure and Landscape', which will attract more than 5,000 visitors and 400 experts in this area.

The main theme of the event will be 'Murcia Río', the project with which more than 60,000 square meters have already been opened to Murcia.

José Ballesta addressed today the organization of this international meeting with the president of the Spanish Association of Parks and Public Gardens, an entity that collaborates with the City Council for its celebration.

Murcia will host the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens (PARJAP) in April 2020;

event to be held under the slogan 'Murcia, Spring Gardens: Blue Infrastructure and Landscape' and that will attract more than 400 experts nationally and internationally and more than 5,000 visitors.

Specifically, it will take place on April 22, 23 and 24, with presentations, discussion tables, technical visits and activities with schoolchildren.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, received this morning the president of the Spanish Association of Parks and Public Gardens (PARJAP), Francisco Bergua Vizcarra, who expressed his gratitude to Murcian councilor for the thorough preparation that the City Council is carrying out to celebrate this event, which is the 47th National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens.

"Murcia will hold this congress in April, at the conclusion of the Spring Festival, at which time the city sports its maximum splendor with the Spring Gardens and floral monuments, which will decorate the city with thousands of flowers and plants," said the mayor from Murcia, who pointed out that “in the National Congress, the main theme will be Murcia Río, the project with which we have already put more than 60,000 square meters of naturalized spaces at the service of Murcia, recreating the Huerta and recovering the riverside vegetation "

The projects of river and garden recovery, urban green infrastructure and the role of the river in cities, as well as trends and challenges in urban green management, will be some of the main themes of the Congress.

More than 500 professionals

The Spanish Association of Parks and Public Gardens is formed by more than 500 professionals in the field of public and private gardening;

entity that was founded in 1973 with the aim of promoting training in parks and gardens, state objective criteria, lead the forums of interest and demands of the sector, as well as value the management of professionals in this field.

The city of Murcia, a national reference for its gardens

The city of Murcia is a reference in gardening at the national level, as it presents parks and gardens of special interest, such as the Floridablanca Garden, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2017 for being the first public garden in Spain, and the Garden of Malecón, BIC since 1982. Murcia also has the last urban vestige of what used to be a Hispanic-Muslim garden in the López Ferrer Garden, in addition to having the new gardens that the Murcia River project has meant, such as the garden of the Alameda del Malecón, the one of the Four Stones and the one of the Fluvial Walk, that connects the Malecon with the river.
