The Orchards of Leisure are spaces conditioned by the City of Murcia and managed by the Environmental Service for the cultivation of vegetables under self-consumption, non-profit, combining social, educational, environmental and heritage benefits as conservation of local varieties in danger of extinction, maintenance of an agroecosystem of great interest, such as the Huerta Antigua de Murcia, educational use, training and dissemination ...
The activity is offered by public call to residents of Murcia, giving preference to those who are retired, pre-retired or unemployed.
Non-profit citizen entities with social insertion projects can also opt for several plots.
The orchards are awarded by public lottery for a period of 2 years, with the option of renewal.
They may also be subject to visits by different groups that so request in order to publicize the activities developed in them, and instill values ​​on traditional and organic farming.
Currently, the municipality of Murcia has 182 plots for Huertos de Ocio, with a total area of ​​17,800 m2, distributed in 13 different areas: Jardin del Lago (Ronda Sur), Señorío de Sangonera (Sangonera La Verde), Santiago El Mayor, Rail Tower Falcó (Urb. Young Future) Espinardo, Garden of Tirocosa (Espinardo), Garden of the Orchards, El Castellar (Churra), San Pío X, Garden Fadesa II, Avda.
