The Municipality of Murcia has more than 60 varieties of cactus (25/08/2019)

One of the species that citizens can know most are those of the genus 'Mammillaria' which, with more than a dozen different varieties, total about 80 copies.

Specifically, one of the species that citizens can know most closely are those of the genus 'Mammillaria' which, with more than a dozen different species, total about 80 copies and the 'Ferrocactus' that, with their four different species, arrive Almost fifty plants.

The City Council is in charge of its maintenance and maintenance, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization in its Parks and Gardens Service.

One of the great advantages is its perfect adaptation to areas with water scarcity, as is the case in the Region of Murcia, hence the variety called 'Xerojardinería' is used above all.

These plants need essential care such as a minimum summer controlled irrigation - except in the so-called winter vegetative stop that this data must be reduced - and a fertilizer according to soil needs, especially from early spring to autumn.

Cacti also have flowers.

Thus, in Murcia some species stand out as the 'peanut', which has orange and purple flowers, the 'Echinofossulocactus', which are small and spherical cacti, have them pink or the 'Lobivias', which have striking red flowers.

This type of plant can be found, mainly, in Murcia in the neighborhood of San Pedro, San Antolín, parterres of the San Francisco map and in the Salitre garden.

In districts you can see numerous specimens also in Aljucer, Guadalupe, Monteagudo, Sangonera la Seca, El Raal, Algezares or Gea and Truyols.

"From the Parks and Gardens Service we take care and control our green areas with various maintenance actions, taking into account the characteristics of the plants and the environment in which they are located," said the councilor.
