Huermur has achieved the opening of the due protection environment of the monument of the Rueda de la Ñora, on the main ditch of Aljufa, and its historical aqueduct.
All this after the request made by the conservation entity in December last year, and now admitted by the ministry of law.
A protection environment has been initiated for this unique monument of the orchard of Murcia, of more than 79,000 square meters, which encompasses the orchard lands near the Wheel, an important section of the Aljufa ditch, and the aqueduct linked to the work of traditional irrigation engineering.
Huermur hopes that the City of Murcia and the Board of Landowners will join the initiative, and support the due protection of this cultural legacy of the garden of Murcia whose origins date back to the fifteenth century.
The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) has achieved the opening, by ministry of law, of the due protection environment of the monument of the Rueda de la Ñora, which was declared a National Monument in 1982, and which currently holds the category of Good of Cultural Interest BIC.
The Rueda de la Ñora and its aqueduct make up one of the most important monuments of the Murcia garden, as the origins of this ferris wheel date back to the 15th century.
The construction was, and continues to be, destined to the elevation of water from the main ditch of Aljufa to other smaller channels that go to the orchards located at a height higher than that of the ditch in which the ferris wheel is located.
An opening that occurs after Huermur's request last December 2018 before the Ministry of Culture, so that the corresponding environment of the Ñora Wheel was established, and after the period of six months for its initiation has elapsed, it It has been produced by the positive silence provided in Law 4/2007, on Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia.
Until now, they point out from Huermur, this emblematic monument of Murcia lacked complete protection, having canceled the TSJ in 2016 the environment established by the Ministry of Culture at that time.
Therefore, and having verified that neither the City Council of Murcia, nor the regional administration itself had acted to initiate a new one, Huermur decided to take the initiative.
Thus, an environment of protection has been initiated for this unique monument of the orchard of Murcia, of more than 79,000 square meters, which encompasses the orchard lands near the Rueda, an important section of the Aljufa ditch, and the aqueduct linked to the engineering work of traditional irrigation.
Huermur hopes that the City Council of Murcia, its leaders, and the Board of Landowners who own the BIC monument, join the initiative and support the proper protection of this cultural legacy of the garden of Murcia whose origins date back to the fifteenth century.
In the same vein, the conservation entity has already sent two written and communications to the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the CARM, so that it can proceed to the corresponding publication in the Official Gazette of the resolution of opening of the environment, as well as communicate to the City Council of Murcia the immediate suspension of all urban planning licenses located in the environment, and the prohibition of granting new building permits.
The president of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, has remarked that: “We hope that both the Ministry of Culture and the City of Murcia collaborate in the definitive protection and safeguard of the Rueda de la Ñora and its surroundings, since they represent an enormous cultural legacy of all Murcia that we must keep for generations to come ”.
Finally, Huermur expects the City Council of Murcia to reconsider, review and cancel the section of the North Coast that is planned according to the PGOU itself to pass over the monument and leave aqueduct of the Rueda de la Ñora.
A forecast, which from Huermur qualify as an authentic attack against the historical and cultural heritage of Murcia and its garden, if the Consistory of the capital permits and authorizes it.
