Two new state-of-the-art equipment will allow obtaining better quality water for Murcia in La Contraparada (19/08/2019)

The mayor of Murcia visited the facilities of the Contraparada Drinking Water Treatment Station, where the equipment responsible for generating ozone is being replaced by new, more modern infrastructure that will improve the taste of water.

In La Contraparada, 25% of the volume of drinking water produced in the municipality of Murcia is produced.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, visited the facilities of the Drinking Water Treatment Station of La Contraparada (ETAP), where the old team responsible for generating ozone is being replaced by two new infrastructures that will allow obtaining better quality water.

After 25 years in operation, the old equipment that was responsible for generating ozone during the purification process will be replaced by two new more modern infrastructures, which will prevent the generation of certain unwanted substances during the chlorination process, providing the best quality water and taste

The station produces 25% of the municipality's drinking water

Currently, La Contraparada produces 25% of the volume of drinking water that is supplied to the municipality of Murcia for drinking water consumption and is capable of drinking a total of 2,000 cubic meters every hour, feeding on a reservoir with a capacity of 175,000 meters cubic, located next to the facilities.

Specifically, the steps of purification are the following: oxidation, flocculation-coagulation, decantation, filtration in activated carbon, sterilization and pumping network.

More than 160,000 analyzes guarantee water quality

During 2018, a total of 166,624 analyzes have been carried out in this water treatment plant, evaluating the state of the water during the entire purification process, from its arrival to the facilities until the drinking water leaves the station;

analyzes that guarantee water quality.
