Huermur asks for information on the disappearance of the cataloged fence of the Artillery Barracks (16/08/2019)

Huermur requests information from the City of Murcia, as well as from the Ministry of Culture, about the whereabouts of the more than 100 meters of gate of the main facade of the historic Artillery Barracks, which were torn up during the remodeling of the area in 2008.

The conservation entity points out that this lattice of the beginning of the century appears graffiti and included in the cataloging and protection of the Artillery Barracks in the General Urban Planning Plan of Murcia, with 2ED grade, and therefore subject to the Cultural Heritage Law.

Huermur has also detected that the City of Murcia has removed the original wooden gate from the main door of pavilion one of the barracks, and has replaced it with a glass window.

Therefore, it has also requested information on its withdrawal as well as current location today.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) requests information from the City of Murcia and the Ministry of Culture, on the whereabouts of the unique gate of the main facade of the historic Artillery Barracks of Murcia, in the downtown Barrio del Carmen.

A military complex that was built between 1921 and 1926, with an eclectic style with numerous decorative references of Andalusian style, and that was in operation until 1998, year in which it was ceded to the City of Murcia by the Army.

Huermur points out that the more than 100 linear meters of this lattice of the beginning of the century appear grapitated and included, in the cataloging and protection sheet of the Artillery Barracks in the General Urban Planning Plan of Murcia, with grade 2ED, and therefore they would be subject to the protection of the Cultural Heritage Law.

After a reform of the gardens that border the well-known Cartagena street in 2008, the gate disappeared, and today there are only two pillars of the access door, the guard gate, and the terminations of the columns that held the gate scattered around the garden beds.

The conservation entity does not rule out going to the Seprona of the Civil Guard, with powers in the area of historical heritage, if the explanations of the City of Murcia and the Ministry of Culture are not convincing or do not clarify what happened with the centenary lattice and the access door .

Huermur has also detected that the City of Murcia has recently removed the large original wooden gate from the main facade of pavilion one of the barracks, and has replaced it with a glass window.

Therefore, it has also requested information on its withdrawal as well as its current location today.
