The Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth will carry out during this month of August tasks of hydrolleaning and repainting of the horizontal signage of different roads of Murcia and districts.

Thus, within the development of the maintenance service, conservation and new installation of horizontal and vertical signage in the municipality of Murcia, the implementation, among other maintenance tasks, of hydrolympic cleaning of road markings is contemplated, an aspect that was one of the valuation criteria for the award of this contract and that is carried out for the first time in the municipality.

"Since in the city of Murcia and its surroundings the distribution of rainfall and its intensity is not sufficient for the signaling to maintain the necessary cleanliness, this type of action has been considered convenient, aimed at signaling in those areas or roads most affected horizontal recover its functionality, "explained the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth.

As a result, the hydraulic cleaning work has been programmed for its realization during the months of August, September and October at night.

The areas where it is going to act are mainly roads that have alignment trees along the road, a high intensity of circulation or elements of special incidence such as the underpasses of Plaza de la Opinion and Ronda de Levante, among others.

Thus, in this month of August work is being done on the cleaning of the road markings of Pintor Pedro Flores, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Floridablanca, Miguel Hernández, Vicente Aleixandre, San Juan de la Cruz Avenue, Proclamation, Intendente Jorge Palacios Avenue, Luis Fontes Pagán street, Pedro Martínez Conesa, Gran Vía, Avenida de la Constitución and Puerta Nueva

In September we will proceed to clean the streets Huerto Pomares, San Andrés, San Antón, Pina, around the José María Aroca Square, Miguel de Cervantes Avenue, Pinos Avenue and Mariano Rojas Cyclist

Among the functions of the Traffic Service, under the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, are the work on traffic planning and ordering traffic of all types of vehicles and people on urban roads, as well as planning, programming and authorize traffic signaling, among others.

This work is carried out through the contract of the Maintenance, conservation and new installation of horizontal and vertical signage in the municipality of Murcia, with an annual allocation of 739,800 euros.

Thanks to this contract, different tasks of placement, replacement, maintenance and conservation of the horizontal and vertical beaconing and signaling material are necessary, both necessary to undertake those new actions and reorganizations of new implantation in urban roads throughout the municipality, as for the correct maintenance of these elements, which due to multiple factors, such as acts of vandalism, accidents and others, must be replaced or repaired daily.

In addition, 240,000 euros are allocated annually to the contract for the supply of materials for vertical signage in Murcia and districts, through which the necessary material is provided for the development of all the works listed.

In total, the City of Murcia annually allocate € 979,800 for the maintenance of traffic signaling in Murcia.

The main works that are developed are:

- Regulation of traffic on public roads, through the establishment of the area for road traffic, defining the directions of movement and regulating the priorities of passage or the establishment of the parking reserve area, both for free use, as regulated, and reserved for specific groups: loads and downloads, people with reduced mobility, official vehicles, and others.

- Reorganization of traffic on roads that for different reasons require an adaptation to improve traffic flow and mobility.

- Replacement or replacement of vertical signage and beacon in poor condition, either due to weather damage, damage caused by accidents or vandalism.

- Repainting of road markings in order to improve their perception and therefore road safety.

It should be noted that the latter, due to their preventive maintenance nature, and given that horizontal signage (pedestrian crossings, directional arrows, symbols, lane separation lines) is subject to continuous wear due to the performance of road traffic and road traffic. atmospheric and climatological elements, are those that can only be programmed throughout the year, depending on the needs.

For this reason, the Traffic Service annually prepares a map with the repainting activities in districts and areas of the city, distributing the different works in the most orderly and practical way possible.

These works are intended to focus on the summer months to interfere as little as possible with the daily use of parking areas, which are free for these tasks, and thus minimize the inconvenience that may be caused to citizens.

Thus, during this month of August different vials of districts such as El Palmar, Baños y Mendigo, La Murta, Gea and Truyols, Avileses, Alquerías, El Raal, Santa Cruz, Casillas, Los Dolores and Zarandona will be repainted.

During the second half of August and in the face of the Murcia Fair, work will be done on the repainting of the Avenida Primero de Mayo, Avenida Jorge Palacios, Ronda de Garay, Paseo Teniente Flomesta, Calle Plano de San Francisco, Calle Aroca, Avenida Juan de la Cierva, García Alix Street, San Andrés Street, Gran Vía, Primo de Rivera Avenue and Circular Square, among others.

As a note, of the total maintenance actions carried out, between 9% and 12% are due to acts of vandalism.

These types of incidents originate from painted on vertical signs, and stickers attached to them, which cause the signal to lose its functionality to indicate, regulate and order traffic, or are due to different types of traffic accidents, which incline or tear down posts, mainly, which in any case interferes with the safety of the road.

For example, changing a signal and its splined and lacquered aluminum pole amounts to about 185 euros, a mirror with its pole, about 140 euros, and a milestone of H-175 PVC, about 50 euros.

Considering the cost of maintenance work and the cost of supply of materials for replacement (signs, posts, fasteners, and others) in 2018 the maintenance cost for acts of vandalism amounted to 29,800 euros, while in the This fiscal year this expense amounts to about 20,300 euros in the first half.
