The Government Board has approved the participation of the City Council in the global event Climathon 2019 on October 25.
This is the largest global climate change event in which Murcia will participate simultaneously with cities from different countries that intend to respond to the challenge of building a carbon-free economy.
The challenge proposed for the 2019 edition is how to improve waste management in the Huerta de Murcia in order to raise awareness among the Murcia population of this problem whose solution would be positive and beneficial for society, since the waste that is currently discarded They could be valued, contributing towards a transition to the circular economy and preventing their elimination from emitting fumes into the atmosphere.
The City of Murcia will recognize through a certificate the three best ideas that contribute to solving the problem.
This event, which is promoted by Climate-KIC, a European initiative to combat climate change, and will be coordinated by ALEM, the Local Energy and Climate Change Agency of the City Council.
The Climathon puts together for 24 hours ideas that allow solving the climate challenges of cities, involving citizens, students, professionals and entrepreneurs who lead the most innovative solutions.
In this way, the links between business, university and administration are reinforced, and local communities are empowered in action against climate change.
It is an opportunity to share the main challenges of the cities with citizens who have the passion and ability to solve them, so that it becomes a showcase of cities to show practical solutions in the fight against global warming.
