The mayors José Ballesta and Luis Barcala met yesterday to claim that their territories, Murcia and Alicante, receive more funding from the Government of Spain.
The mayors argue that two cities that represent the Spanish provinces that are currently experiencing the highest population growth in the country should receive more funding.
José Antonio Serrano, spokesman for the Municipal Socialist Group, fails to understand the position of Mayor Ballesta.
"It is paradoxical that the City of Murcia has been allowing autonomous deficits and providing services that are the responsibility of the Autonomous Community and, however, claim only the money to the State Government."
According to the socialist spokesman, the City Council has been paying social, educational, health, employment or youth services that are the responsibility of the Community.
"Pay the janitor of a school, maintain the offices that exist in some districts, pay heating oil bills ... These are examples of expenses that the City Council has faced when they are the responsibility of the Autonomous Community" denounces Serrano.
The disbursement of these payments reached in 2017 -last liquidated budget-, 48 million euros, while the transfer received to cover them by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia was 9 million euros.
"We do not have the accounts, we have a deficit of regional financing of 39 million euros per year and what has the City Council done to remedy it?" Asks José Antonio Serrano.
"With these 39 million euros, this year could have solved many problems of our municipality, for example, could be solved the current situation of the Local Police, or have built and maintained the day centers that are sorely needed to our municipality, or having invested in more children's schools so as not to give rise to situations such as the one in the hamlet of Algezares ... But it is clear what the priorities of the Ballesta Government team are, "regrets Serrano.
"For 24 years we have had deaf governors in San Esteban and Mudos in La Glorieta, unable to claim the essential resources to offer and improve the services that our City Council gives us."
Another one of the claims of Ballesta is around the infrastructures.
They demand a series of improvements to the Government such as the arrival of the Corridor, the opening of the third lane on the A-7 and that the North and Northwest arches be tendered.
"All of these unmistakable commitments of the Socialist Government in which we are already working, so we do not understand what our mayor's claim consists in. What really strikes us is that among its demands is not such a key issue for the city of Murcia as the burial, a matter that, incidentally, had to solve a Delegate of the Socialist Government in a matter of 7 months against the inability of the popular, "argues Serrano.
"Of course Murcia and Murcia deserve the resources necessary to provide the quality services that our city deserves, but it is curious that the City addressed its claims to a Socialist Government that has done more in 9 months for Murcia than the PP in 28 years ", claims the spokesman of the Municipal Socialist Group.
"For all these reasons, I demand that the mayor act with the same forcefulness as he did before the National Government, with the Government of the Autonomous Community and that he firmly demands that he face the 39 million euros owed to the City Council. of Murcia this year ", concludes the Socialist spokesman.
