Huermur considers the preservation of the historic levee of the Malecón on the Segura River as it passes through the city of Murcia, and next to the mills of San Francisco and Los Álamos, since it is an 18th century heritage, which constitutes the last vestige of the previous medieval casal of urban mills of the city of Murcia, which were located facing both banks of the Segura.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) defends that the historic and monumental dam of the Malecón, which is part of the set of mills of San Francisco and Los Álamos, also located within the Special Plan of the Historic Artistic Center Murcia PECHA, must be conserved and protected in its entirety, as it is one of the few miller patrimonies of the eighteenth century that remain in the Segura River.

The conservationist group, which has participated in various meetings of the National Association for the Conservation and Study of Mills (ACEM), exchanges experiences of defense and conservation of dams, since these situations have occurred in various regions of Spain, finding solutions Respectful of the cultural heritage and the fauna of the rivers.

For the high historical and cultural values ​​of the monumental levee of the Malecón next to the mills of San Francisco and los Álamos on each bank of the Segura River, as well as for its union with the BIC monument of Paseo del Malecon, which has been a National Monument since 1982, and all these elements of our heritage make up one of the few historical images that remain in Murcia, Huermur requested its cataloging under the protection of Law 4/2007 on Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia.

The Ministry of Culture has recognized through the appropriate record of initiation, the high historical values ​​of the whole, as well as its uniqueness and the need for comprehensive protection of this unique heritage in our land.

Finally, Huermur recalls that the current urban configuration of the Segura, with the weirs of the Malecón and Old Bridge mills, has been in this situation for the last centuries, and that the changes that have been able to alter the river are due to the inflatable dams and the lack of flow, which have turned this section into a dammed area, so the measures should be aimed at recovering the sufficient and clean circulation of the Segura water, and not to destroy the heritage that forms a cultural landscape maintained from the century XVIII.
