Ciencia en AcciónXX, whose objective is to present science in an attractive and motivating way to young people and the general public, grants an Honorable Mention to the scientific dissemination project MasterChem of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Murcia (UCC + i of the UMU) and the 1st Ex Aequo Prize to the conference "Science, disclosure and life" by José Manuel López Nicolás.
The first of these awards, Adsalsa Prize, awarded within the modality "Scientific Outreach Works, Books, Magazines and Social Networks", has fallen on the MasterChem project for "its innovative proposal to use a formula of success in the television medium for bring chemistry to citizenship, "as the jury has argued.
The team that has developed this project is made up as a scientific committee by the professors of the UMU: José Manuel López Nicolás, Delfina Roca Marín, Rafael García Molina and Asunción Hidalgo Montesinos.
On the other hand, the members of the academic committee were: Isabel María Saura Llamas, Joaquín González Sánchez, Carmen López Erroz and David José Meseguer Pardo.
In charge of the organization have been: Rocío González García and Mamen Martínez Fernández.
MasterChem is an innovative contest that aims to bring chemistry to students in the Region of Murcia, simulating the successful culinary program.
In addition, it seeks to eliminate chemophobia from society and encourage the creation of scientific vocations among the participants, experiencing at first hand the magic and emotion that hides the creation and work of chemistry.
This project is financed by the UCC + i of the Vicerrectorado of the Vice-rectorship of Quality, Culture and Communication UMU, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology - Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
The second prize, the 1st Prize Ex Aequo of Works of Scientific Disclosure, has been received by the professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology José Manuel López Nicolás of the UMU, for a talk given by invitation of the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia.
His work "Science, dissemination and life" has been awarded in the form of "Works of Scientific Outreach, Press, Radio and Television" and highlighted "for being a great conference on the importance of spreading science in society", explains the jury.
The awards ceremony of "Science in Action XX", in which other dissemination projects of the national territory have been awarded, will take place at the Teatro Calderón in Alcoi, next Sunday, October 6 in the morning.
Science in Action international competition aimed at students, professors, researchers and disseminators of the scientific community, in any of its disciplines. Its main objective is to present science in an attractive and motivating way, so that young people and the general public are interested for her.
This initiative is the result of the joint action of the Superior Council of Scientific Research, the Lilly Foundation, the Princess of Girona Foundation, the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Royal Spanish Physics Society, the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry, the Spanish Society of Astronomy , the Geological Society of Spain and the National University of Distance Education.
