The Cemetery Our Father Jesus adheres to the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe.
The Department of Sports and Health of the City of Murcia manages the municipal cemetery, facility with more than 130 years old, and works on the project to transform this facility into a cultural asset, incorporating into the city the wealth it contains and that shapes its history during these last two centuries.
In this sense and in accordance with the actions that are being carried out, we propose the adhesion of the Municipal Cemetery Our Father Jesus to the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe (ASCE), composed of 140 members from 99 cities of 22 European countries.
Through this association, the history, architecture and local culture of the member cities are made known through different projects such as the inclusion of the European Cemeteries Network in the agenda of the World Tourism Organization, the participation of events of the ASCE, or the incorporation to the EUCEMET project (the first project of the European Commission dedicated to cemeteries) and to the SYMBOLS project, for the promotion of the funerary heritage.
Adherence to this entity means an expense of 700 euros per year in the year of incorporation and 500 euros in subsequent years.
On the other hand, the City maintains its collaboration agreement with the Murcian Society of Anthropology, in force since 2017, granting a grant of 5,000 euros to this institution which will allow continuing to develop actions that reveal the intricacies of the main Murcian cemetery.
In this way, work will be done on the preparation of new guides, and guided visits to these municipal facilities will be resumed.
