The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, presented today the Phase II of the Greenway, which will entail the extension of this healthy itinerary in more than 2 km, the opening of new sections pedestrians and cyclists, the creation of gardens, green areas and a palm grove of 3,000 m2, the installation of sports and leisure elements, as well as the recovery of railway stations and stops along this pedestrian and cyclist route that will exceed 9, 5 km in length, and that crosses the districts of the South Coast.
The battery of performances presented today will directly benefit the districts of Los Dolores, San José de la Vega, Beniaján, Torreagüera, Los Ramos, Alquerías and Zeneta, where different improvement works will be carried out on this path that crosses the old route of the railway, "a project for the transformation of the municipality that has allowed the incorporation of 200,000 m2 of spaces of high landscape value, connecting the Huerta and the districts of the Costera Sur with the city of Murcia, and which has become one of the most important green axes traveled since its opening this past spring, with thousands of people who travel daily, both on foot and by bicycle.
The new Vía Verde has led to the creation of sports areas and outdoor sports spaces in the 200,000 m2 released after the elimination of the railway track on the surface, benefits 53,000 residents of the districts that make up its layout, has 2,200 large trees porte and will have 15 pedestrian transversal steps and six rolled throughout its layout, as well as new lighting in the crossings of the urban centers.
The budget for Phase II of the Vía Verde is 1.5 million euros and its term of one year.
South Connection

Improvement and adaptation of the environment of the new accessible pedestrian footbridge, with new plantations and urban furniture;
