José Joaquín Cerón Madrigal, professor and head of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of the University of Murcia (UMU), has published 'Acute phase proteins, saliva and education in laboratory science: an update and some reflections', within the journal BMC Veterinary Research.
In the article, the researcher makes a review of his scientific career and his main lines of research, reflecting on its potential and possible future developments.
And more specifically, Cerón Madrigal focuses on three aspects of veterinary clinical analysis.
First, it highlights the study of acute phase proteins that, he says, "are the most sensitive markers of inflammation" and provides a series of advice on their measurement and interpretation.
It also deals with saliva analysis, of which the researcher states that "they have very clear advantages with respect to blood because they can be obtained non-invasively and without producing stress or pain".
In addition, it analyzes the progress in education in the specialty and future trends.
Finally, it discusses cross-cutting themes such as possible interdisciplinary collaborations and One-Health studies within the scope of clinical analysis.
This publication has been made after receiving the 'Heiner Sommer' award from the International Society of Veterinary Clinical Analysis for his scientific career.
With this award, it was consolidated as the first Spanish scientist to obtain it and the third in Europe.
