Last Saturday, the parish community of San Andrés and Santa María de La Arrixaca of Murcia lived with joy the priestly ordination of Javier Mateos.
An important celebration also for the auxiliary Bishop of Cartagena, Bishop Sebastián Chico, who was the one who ordained the new priest.
"The word of the Lord communicates to us the important moment of the sending of the disciples to preach the Gospel as an assignment and a special task for the call of all times."
Thus the Auxiliary Bishop began his homily, in which he also stressed the need of the people of God to "celebrate and live the presence of the Lord in their lives through the grace of the sacraments."
Mons. Chico recalled to the ordinance that "a good priest must be exemplary, humble and recognize when he has made a mistake, having the courage to go to the one who called him and I entrust him with a great responsibility, to ask for forgiveness with humility".
He also congratulated him for having "trusted God" and encouraged him to carry the cross of Christ "as a sign of Jesus' love for humanity announcing that only in Christ, dead and risen, is there salvation and redemption."
Before concluding the celebration, Javier thanked God, the auxiliary Bishop who had ordained him, the Bishop of the Diocese, Msgr. Lorca Planes, and his brother priests their welcome in the presbytery.
And he also recognized the support of his family, friends and colleagues during his time as a seminarian.
Finally, Bishop Chico entrusted the new presbyter to the Virgin Mary to accompany him on his journey and serve as his guide, and announced his destiny as parochial vicar in San Pedro Apóstol of San Pedro del Pinatar.
