The collaboration between the City of Murcia and the Federation of Murcia Associations of People with Physical and Organizational Disability FAMDIF / COCEMFE will promote actions to facilitate the movement of pedestrians with mobility problems and promote their protection in public spaces.
Likewise, new initiatives will be developed to promote accessibility and the elimination of barriers in this municipality.
To this end, an agreement has been signed by the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, and by the president of the Federation of Murcia Associations of People with Physical and Organizational Disability FAMDIF / COCEMFE.
The act was also attended by the Councilor for the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez.
According to this agreement, the Accessibility Technical Office of this federation will carry out a study of the urbanized public space (sidewalks and pedestrian routes, crossing points, unevennesses and other elements that affect urbanization and road safety) to guarantee the continuity of the itineraries Accessible pedestrians at the crossing points with the vehicular itinerary and bike lanes.
To this end, the zones in which this study will be carried out each year will be established, giving priority to areas of districts.
In addition, proposals will be made to ensure the accessibility and road safety of pedestrians with reduced mobility and advise and report on those aspects related to the elimination of architectural barriers.
The agreement also contemplates the promotion of training actions in terms of accessibility and elimination of barriers addressed to city managers and technicians working in this field.
The City Council will collaborate with this Technical Office of Accessibility for the implementation of these actions with 2,000 euros.
The agreement, which will be extended during the next four years, also contemplates the creation of a Joint Monitoring Commission composed of two members representing the City Council and two appointed by FAMDIF / COCEMFE-MURCIA.
The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, explained that "this is one more step to achieve full accessibility of the municipality.From the Government Team we are very sensitive to the needs of people with reduced mobility so we will continue working in the elimination of architectural barriers ".
Universal Accessibility Award
We must remember that tomorrow, the Mayor will collect the Universal Accessibility prize from Queen Letizia, in an act that will be held at the Corral de Comedias de Almagro (Ciudad Real).
The councilor Paqui Perez stressed that "with this distinction the jury recognizes Murcia as the Spanish town of more than 100,000 inhabitants that has worked the most for the substantial improvement of the quality of life and the inclusion of people with disabilities. encourages us to continue developing actions that achieve the full adaptation of the environment to people with some type of disability to design a city for all of us We are currently studying the implementation of a technical accessibility office to coordinate all municipal actions in a transversal manner in this matter. "
It is an international distinction, promoted by the Royal Board on Disability, an autonomous body attached to the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.
