The Assembly Hall of the building attached to the City Council has hosted this morning the opening of the Meeting of Deafblind Youth of Spain, whose seventeenth edition is held in Murcia and will be extended in the coming days.
The Councilor for the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, presided over the act attended by nearly a hundred young people and interpreters, and in which the responsible for the Youth of Deafblind People of the Federation of Deafblind Associations of Spain, Javier García;
the president of the Territorial Council of the ONCE in Murcia, Teresa Lajarín, the territorial delegate of the ONCE in the Region, Juan Carlos Morejón;
and the president of ASOCIDE Región de Murcia, Jesús Varelo.
In addition, attendees were able to attend the talk on self-improvement 'Esquivando barreras' by Sergio Moreno.
Paqui Perez has indicated that "from the Department of Equality we are very proud that the Federation of Deafblind Associations of Spain and the Secretariat of State has chosen Murcia to celebrate this meeting in which we actively collaborate from the City" and has highlighted " the importance of the real and effective integration of all persons with disabilities in our society, it is a right of all groups and a duty for the City Council to articulate the necessary mechanisms so that no disability is left out ".
For her part, Rebeca Pérez highlighted "the work of the Youth Service for more than 15 years to promote the inclusion and active participation of young people with different abilities, we want young people to look to the future in equal conditions and adapt different municipal services to all the needs of the youth of the municipality, regardless of the capabilities they have ".
In 2008, the Youth Service launched the project 'Information and active citizenship: a strategy for the inclusion of young people affected by a sensory disability' whose main objective is to propose those measures, experiences, benefits and phenomena that reinforce participation of young people without any exclusion, especially young deaf people, blind people, blind deaf people in the Youth Information Centers and youth services.
Thus, the young participants will visit these days the Museum of the Huerta Alcantarilla, will conduct training and sports workshops in San Pedro del Pinatar and enjoy a tour of Cartagena and Calblanque.
