Balance and challenges of assisted reproduction at the University of Murcia (21/06/2019)

The Unit of Scientific Culture of the University of Murcia closes the cycle of informative conferences of the course with the professor of the University of Murcia Pilar Coy Fuster.

It will be on Monday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m., in the Cultural Area Room of El Corte Inglés.

Under the name of '40 years of the first test tube baby.

The importance of the use of animal models for the advancement in assisted reproduction techniques', the researcher will offer us a global view on the current situation of assisted reproduction techniques in different species and the main challenges.

It will start with the arrival in the world of Louise J. Brown (1978), the first human being born through in vitro fertilization and will try to answer questions such as: what is the current increase in the rate of infertility in the population? can there be long-term problems derived from some techniques of assisted reproduction? Is the composition of the media used for in vitro culture in the initial development of embryos important?

In addition, he will tell how from his research group they have promoted the creation of the first biobank of reproductive fluids in the Region of Murcia.

He will also talk about the first pilot farms for the long-term study of animals born by assisted reproduction in the Veterinary Farm of the University of Murcia: a pioneering project worldwide.
