The University of Murcia and the Murcian Institute for Biomedical Research (IMIB), through the Foundation for Training and Research
Health of the Region of Murcia (FFIS), have signed on Thursday a collaboration agreement for the development of the Master in Translational Biosanitary Research, in an event that took place at the University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca.
The main objective of translational research is to transfer knowledge derived from basic research to the prevention and treatment of problems detected in the clinic.
With this master's degree, both institutions intend to create a space to promote the generation and transfer of knowledge, so that the development of new scientific advances find the way to its implementation, thus increasing the quality of life of patients and their families .
In addition, the incorporation of predoctoral students will be encouraged to the different research groups of the participating centers, specifically to the Faculties of Medicine, Biology and Chemistry of the UMU, to the IMIB-FFIS, and to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital.
As explained by the coordinator of the master's degree and professor of Immunology at UMU, Elena Martín-Orozco, the implementation of the degree will take place in the academic year 2020-2021.
As for the maximum number of places offered, will be 20 the first course of delivery and will increase to 30 during the second.
José Luján, rector of the UMU, has indicated that the IMIB has a markedly translational objective and that thanks to this agreement "we continue uniting interests and generating synergies among all the agents involved in the training of our students".
With this master's degree, he added, "the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research, the Murcia Health Service, the Foundation for Health Education and Research of the Region of Murcia and the UMU intend to encourage and collaborate in the development of the bio-sanitary research of excellence in the Region ".
The act also counted on the presence of Manuel Villegas, health advisor of the CARM;
Jesús Ángel Sánchez, director of the Foundation for Health Training and Research of the Region of Murcia (FFIS);
and Pablo Ramírez, director of the IMIB.
