The project, promoted by the Department of Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, intends to recreate a route that, accompanying the original layout of the wall, in a circular sense, serves to know part of the farthest history and the numerous vestiges that still they are conserved.

The tour starts at the Visitor Center of the Wall of Santa Eulalia, where an introduction about the origins of the city of Murcia will be given and an exhibition that will serve as the connecting thread of the itinerary.

From there, a kilometer-long route begins in the remains of the Muralla building of Santa Eulalia, continuing along Cánovas del Castillo street, Plaza Apostoles, Cardenal Belluga Square, Cathedral and Glorieta, ending this stretch in the Wall of Verónicas.

This is the section that remains the most important and numerous visible remains, some of them visible, above street level, but most are hidden or buried in the basements of the current buildings.

The original wall will be visible in some sections and in others will be traced on the current surface, recreating the old defensive structure of the city that was built during the reign of the Wolf King, in the twelfth century.

To this main axis are added two other itineraries.

One of them connects Calle del Pilar, Sagasta, Santa Teresa, and continuing in a West-East direction to Plaza de Santa Eulalia.

The second route is transversal and includes spaces related to Medieval Murcia, such as the Salzillo Museum, the City Museum, the San Esteban site, the Alfonso X El Sabio Avenue or the Santa Clara Museum.

The Wall and its Doors

Within the itinerary stand out its Doors and the urban spaces that surrounded them.

They were located in strategic places, obeying different circumstances and related to the uses and functions they served.

Others, near the military enclosure and the residences of power, the Alcázar Mayor, Puerta del Toro, the Market.

Or, next to the commercial control of access to the city, such as the Puerta de la Aduana.

The rest could obey to the daily necessities of the life of the Muslim city, accesses to the orchards, of communication with roads of minor order or with possible settlements of extrawalls.

Throughout the Itinerary you can discover and recreate several of the most important gates of the Arab wall of Murcia: The Puerta de Santa Eulalia or Door of the 7 Doors, Puerta del Toro, Puerta del Sol, Puerta del Puente, Puerta de la Customs or Glaziers' Gate.
