The land bank promotes the cultivation of parcels of disused orchard with the agreement between owners and associations (03/06/2019)

The Councilor for Planning, Environment, Water and Kitchen Garden, Antonio Navarro, visited this morning the Senda de Granada farm, which, framed in the land bank promoted by the City Council, has ceased to be an abandoned garden to become a land in production.

The initiative is part of the agreement with the Association for the Custody of the Territory (ACUDE) and in this case, has the participation of the Senderico Association.

The objective of the land bank is to ensure that those orchards whose owners are not cultivating can be transferred to put them into production, as pursued by the Plan of Action of the Huerta.

It is an action that also 'can boost self-employment and contributes to betting on quality products that can be marketed and distributed directly through local markets', explained Navarro, promoting' the recovery of the garden in its productive aspect, "he added.

The farm that they visited this morning, which was in a state of neglect, is being recovered by the El Senderico association, and is intended for the ecological cultivation of seasonal vegetables.

The Plan of Action of the Huerta de Murcia aims to enhance the value of the Huerta, through the management of a land bank, with the immediate aim of preventing the abandonment of the cultivated land or recovering it so that it becomes an opportunity to the conservation of Huerta's heritage.

In this way, the model of sustainable development is promoted for the recovery of unproductive lands and put them into production, increasing agricultural activity and promoting the creation of the auxiliary activities of the garden.

The El Senderico Association, is one of those examples of associations for agricultural production and distribution derived from the crops of the Huerta de Murcia, since among its purposes includes the recovery, exploitation and enhancement of abandoned land in this area.

In this case, taking advantage of farms integrated into the custody network of the ACUDE territory.

During the visit, Antonio Navarro was accompanied by the president of ACUDE, Pilar Sánchez, the secretary of the organization, Juan Luis Castanedo, and the delegate of ACUDE for matters of the Huerta de Murcia, Ángel Tórtola, as well as representatives of the El Senderico.
