For example, numerous standards facilitate the achievement of SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Among these, the UNE-EN ISO 9001 Quality Management or the Specifications on Industry 4.0 stand out to favor the digitalization of the Spanish industry.
The technical standards help companies and public administrations to successfully overcome their great challenges, in fields such as exports, innovation, digitalization, training, social responsibility or the effective deployment of public policies.
More than 4,000 UNE standards in the Spanish catalog, made up of nearly 33,000 standards, help companies achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.
This has been announced by the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, on the occasion of its General Assembly, corresponding to the 2018 financial year. In the same, UNE has presented its Strategic Plan for the period 2019-2021, which aims to help companies and Public administrations to promote the application of the standards they need to face their challenges.
An illustrative example are the ODS.
Standards or standards facilitate organizations to achieve one or more Sustainable Development Goals, as they provide a common language and measurable criteria, based on the knowledge, consensus and collaboration that this global challenge requires.
The standards are documents available to all that contain the market consensus on good practices in matters important to companies.
Thus, numerous standards of the Spanish catalog help achieve ODS 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Among these, the UNE-EN ISO 9001 Quality Management stands out.
It is the most widely used quality management tool in the world, with more than one million organizations applying it effectively.
Also illustrative are the Specifications UNE 0060 and UNE 0061 that establish the requirements to be able to consider a Digital Industry.
These have been elaborated in UNE, with the participation and consensus of a group of experts, under the impulse of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, to facilitate the digitalization of the Spanish industry.
In the case of SDG 3 Health and Wellbeing, there are several norms that help to achieve this Objective that seeks to guarantee universal health coverage and the welfare of the global population.
Among these, is the UNE 179003 Patient Safety.
Likewise, in 2018 the ISO 45001 of Occupational Health and Safety Management was published.
Regarding SDG 13 Action for climate, organizations have numerous rules at their disposal that help them achieve this SDG that seeks to take urgent measures to combat climate change.
Among others, stand out the UNE-EN ISO 14001 of Environmental Management, which helps to prevent environmental risks or the UNE-EN ISO 14064 of the Carbon Footprint, which allows to quantify the greenhouse gases of an organization.
For its part, the UNE 178501 of Intelligent Tourist Destinations helps to achieve SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
It is a Spanish standard, pioneer in the world.
All the rules of CTN 178 facilitate organizations to achieve this ODS.
32,930 standards in catalog
In 2018, 1,883 new technical standards were incorporated into the Spanish catalog, managed by UNE, which has 32,930 standards.
In this way, it is consolidated as one of the most complete in the world.
The standards help companies and public administrations to successfully overcome their great challenges, in fields such as exports, innovation, digitalization, training, social responsibility or in the deployment of public policies.
Technical standards are the language spoken by international markets.
In fact, according to the OECD, 80% of the products marketed in the world are subject to them, facilitating the export of goods and services.
Of the total of the Spanish standards catalog, 75% are adoption of European standards, while 35% are also international, which favors access to foreign markets of Spanish companies.
In addition, the standards help public administrations in regulatory compliance and the deployment of public policies.
Thus, 12% of the rules of the Spanish catalog are cited in national legislation.
The rules have economic benefits for companies, which can account for up to 5% of their annual income from sales, according to an ISO study.
For the whole of the Spanish economy, the rules already account for 1% of GDP.
The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, is composed of more than 500 members representing almost all of the Spanish productive fabric.
Among these are 140 national sector associations.
UNE has the AENOR and CEIS investees.
