The Park and Garden Service is working on the revision and maintenance of the 15 workout or calisthenic spaces that exist in Murcia and districts.

Thus, twice a month it is checked that there is no rust on the appliances, that they are in good working order, that they have not been painted, that they are clean, that they are well painted, and in case of any damage, they act for their immediate repair.

The calisthenics consists of doing gymnastics in the street and that comes from the United States

"It is one more step in the promotion of exercise and healthy living outdoors, thus achieving that the green areas have spaces for everyone such as playgrounds, canine recreation areas, gerontogimnasia and spaces calisthenics" explained the Councilor for Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén.

Among the places where you can practice this sports discipline are Torreagüera, Casillas, Los Dolores or the Malecón, among others

"A calisthenics space is a set of devices, normally between five and six, that allow all the muscles of the body to be exercised in a healthy and natural way, specifically with this discipline a clear improvement in strength, flexibility or muscular resistance among others ", explains Guillen.

This discipline, which allows to have 100 devices in the municipality (each installation has an average of 5 or 6 devices) is one of the high performance disciplines that is most practiced in countries such as the United States, Russia or Ukraine and Spain, in where it begins to be profiled as a branch at a competitive level.

One of the last ones that has started with 400 square meters has been in the street Sol de Torreagüera, where you can do all kinds of muscular exercises in a small space and especially in the open air.

It treats, recalls Guillén, of a clear bet by the promotion of the sport, of the exercise and of giving him a use ample ample to the green spaces of the municipality.

A measure that adds to the installation of areas of canine recreation, playgrounds, areas enabled to run, gerontogimnasia appliances and a host of options available to the green spaces right now.
