The University of Murcia inaugurates on Wednesday, May 15, the installation 'The shape of the stars' of Soledad Sevilla, which will take place in the room The Chapel (Convalecencia building), at 20.30.
The event will have the presence, among others, of José Luján, rector of the UMU, and Juan Antonio Lorca, general director of Cultural Assets of the CARM.
'The shape of the stars' is inspired by a plane of the universe of the architect José Miguel de Prada Poole;
a homogeneous, isotropic and regular universe, with images representing four directions of space, which is supposed to be not spherical, but cubic, as the artist explains.
After the investigation carried out during his stay in the Technological Institute of Massachusetts between 1978 and 1982, the architect considered, from the elaborated representations, that the universe is not homogeneous nor isotropic nor regular.
"We shared a roof, ideas, opinions, life, ... and, from that communication, there arises in me the need to represent my own universe based on the one he developed," says Soledad Sevilla.
"As so many times, the latent image in my subconscious became light when Paco Caballero invited me to see La Capilla and he proposed me to do a specific work for it, that magical space, which by its proportions rises towards the sky, rescued and He started that sleeping gesture and, for this reason, the piece 'The shape of the stars' forms a tetrahedron designed and prepared for installation in this room at the University of Murcia. "
The installation, which has been organized in collaboration with the Directorate General of Cultural Assets and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of CARM, can be visited until September 13.
