The Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, has visited the first places where this initiative has been launched, whose objective is to revegetate and green the driest areas of neighborhoods and districts with the planting of these plants, beginning, first, by the main accesses to the city.
The Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, visited this morning some areas where the 'Ivy Plan' is being executed to supervise the actions that have already been carried out.
The initiative, launched by the municipal Parks and Gardens Service, aims to revegetate and green the main accesses to the city in order to decorate and embellish its image.
Likewise, the plan will also act in arid areas, depleted of vegetation for different reasons, which will become zones with upholstering that grow very fast and do not need just irrigation once they settle.
The ivy will not only occupy parterres, but it will also settle on slopes, converting those spaces of dry and arid image into places that are green with the climbers.
It is a plant that adapts very well to practically all types of soils and climates, and in winter it is practically possible to suppress irrigation.
In fact, during the colder months with lower temperatures, it is sufficient to water it once a week, while in the months of heat and higher temperatures it is increased between 3 and 4 times to keep the plant properly hydrated.
So that it supports well, the terrain has to be permeable and with good drainage, and the suitable time for its sowing is autumn or spring.
The Ivy Plan is already underway in different locations, both in the center of the city and in the districts.
Of the 60 actions initially planned, it has been executed so far in the parterres of Calle Greco, Calle Navegante Juan Fernández, Paseo Joaquín Garrigues Walker and in the area of the FREMM -which this morning visited the councilor José Guillén- , and will continue now in the main entrances to the city.
In total, it is estimated that an approximate area of between 25,000 and 30,000 square meters will be planted with ivy.
