The University of Murcia presented on Tuesday the call for the twenty-first edition of the 'Murcian Book of the Year 2018' prize, organized by the Friends of Reading Foundation, in an act that took place at the UMU's Rectorship.
During the presentation, Encarnación Martínez, president of the Amigos de la Lectura Foundation, explained that authors of literary works (fiction, essay, theater and poetry) that have been published during the year 2018 and that have links with them will be eligible for this award. the Region of Murcia, through its residence, its place of birth, having published in the territory or that the work is based on it.
The complete list of works that will be able to compete will be obtained thanks to the official registration of the Regional Library.
The amount of the prize amounts to 4,000 euros and has been sponsored by the UMU, the CARM and the Cajamurcia Foundation.
From Tuesday to July 1, a period of non-binding citizen consultation has been opened so that any interested party can propose what is considered the best book of the year through the website www.premiolibromurciano.es.
Subsequently, a jury made up of people of recognized prestige linked to the world of Literature and the Arts, will issue the ruling.
The award ceremony will take place on October 2, 2019, the first day of the Book Fair in Murcia.
Pascual Martínez, director of the Cajamurcia Foundation has stated that "when we received the invitation to participate in this edition of the award we had no doubt, because we think it is a responsibility and an obligation to support the reading, writing and editorial work of the Region of Murcia ".
He also pointed out that he hopes that this collaboration will be extended in the future.
Meanwhile, Miriam Guardiola, Minister of Tourism and Culture of the CARM, said that "from the Regional Government is very important to support initiatives like this for the dissemination of books and reading, also have a strong track record of more than two decades. "
The act has been closed by Luján, who has shown his satisfaction of being surrounded by people who support culture and, specifically, reading.
In addition, he thanked the unconditional collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Cajamurcia Foundation with the institution.
