The façade of the Annex Building of the City Hall will be illuminated tomorrow in red for the celebration of the Week of Heart Failure, within the framework of the initiative promoted by the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology, which takes place on the 6th. to May 12.
The Department of Infrastructure, Works and Public Services and Sports and Health, directed by Rebeca Pérez and Felipe Coello, respectively, respond to the request made by the Heart Failure Section.
In this way, it is intended to promote knowledge of this pathology among the general population, with special emphasis on prevention and early diagnosis, as well as on poor prognosis.
The Spanish cities, among which is Murcia, will illuminate its monuments, public spaces, hospitals and places of tourist interest in red.
Heart failure (HF) is a disease that prevents the heart from pumping enough blood to the body, not being able to carry the necessary oxygen and nutrients to the rest of the body for normal functioning.
This reduction in blood flow to the organs and tissues can cause circulatory failure.
It affects 14 million people throughout Europe.
In Spain, it is present in 7% of those over 45 years of age and in 16% of those over 75 years of age.
It is one of the main causes of hospital admission and in Spain it is the third cause of death due to cardiovascular diseases and affects, above all, older age groups and women.
