The Mayor recalled that 'four years ago there was not a single meter or tendered or works and at this time half is running and the rest will start immediately'.

It is the largest public investment in the history of the city - estimated at 617 million euros - that will allow it to 'solve a historical claim made tens of years ago'.

The approval approved today by the Plenary of the Corporation of the amendment addendum of the Agreement signed on June 22, 2006 for the remodeling of the arterial railway network of the city of Murcia allows to ensure the financing of the entire project of burial with own funds of the three administrations -state, regional and local- and the adjudication of the second and last phase, from El Carmen until its departure in Nonduermas.

Meanwhile, the first phase continues, between the Tiñosa bridge and the entrance to the station.

In this way, the 8 kilometers of underground roads in the city are guaranteed.

The mayor, José Ballesta, who made an assessment of the agreement after the plenary session, recalled that four years ago, when the current Corporation was established, 'there was not a single subway underground or tendered, much less in works and in this Half of the time is running and the rest will start immediately.

According to the addendum approved today, the 617 million euros involved in the project is the largest public investment in the history of the city, which will allow it to 'solve a decades-old claim', said the mayor, adding that ' all Murcia have fought because that artificial barrier that were the roads in its way through the city were eliminated to end this physical separation.

Greater effort, perseverance and work

Ballesta also had words of thanks to all the administrations that have worked on this project, both the three ministerial teams, two political parties, and several different representatives in the Ministry of Development, with which the City Council has held hundreds of meetings as over these four years.

"There has been no issue to which we have devoted greater effort, more perseverance and more work," added the mayor, who also insisted that throughout the process, each one has played the role that corresponded to him, "some legitimately, as the popular demand for long-awaited commitments, and others, in the offices, with formal and informal meetings, trying to reconcile positions, in some cases firmly claiming and in others flexibilizing positions and applying consensus, moderation, agreement, good sense, coherence and the height of view so that the project would not go down as it sometimes did. '

'It is time to look to the future, because life is not backward or downward,' he concluded.

The City Council will contribute 41.44 million euros

The addendum approved today by the Plenary, with the favorable vote of all the municipal groups, except the abstention of Ahora Murcia, updates the collaboration mechanisms to establish a new economic-financial approach of shared management among the different administrations.

The economic quantification of the work after this modification places the costs in 617.25 million euros, of which correspond to the City Council 41.44 M €, of which, 14.5 M € this year.

The rest of the contributions will be extended until 2028.

The financial situation of the local administration makes it possible to face these economic commitments given that the limits of allowed indebtedness are not exceeded, as determined by the report of the Municipal Intervention.
