A contestant of the delegation of the Physics Olympiad of the Region of Murcia, José Miguel Reinaldos Miñarro, IES Francisco Ros Giner de Lorca, has won a gold medal in the XXX Spanish Physics Olympiad, held from 25 to 28 April at the University of Salamanca, where 138 winning students of the respective local phases from all over the country participated.
This is a historic result for the Region, since José Miguel has obtained the fourth gold medal of the ten that are awarded, and has been selected to be part of the team of five students that will represent our country in the International Physics Olympiad next month of July in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The International Physics Olympiad is a prestigious competition, the most important worldwide, for pre-university students where about 400 participants from about a hundred countries meet.
In addition to being part of the international Spanish team, Reinaldos will receive an award that the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training grants to the top ten qualifiers of the national Olympics.
The student was selected, last March, in the local phase of the Physics Olympiad to participate in the national phase, an annual competition for high school students whose goal is to promote the teaching of this science, constitute a meeting point between students and teachers and select the contestants who represent Spain in the International Olympiad.
During the tests, the students had to solve an experimental test to determine the mechanical properties of an aluminum rod, and theoretical problems about raindrops in the clouds, dark matter in our galaxy, the Milky Way, and over a canyon. electrons with magnetic focus.
