Representatives of the Church, of business organizations, social and humanitarian entities dedicated to the protection and assistance to people in need and in a situation of exclusion, educational and religious associations, focused on the promotion of culture, sports clubs, etc., representing dozens of thousands of people, have signed writings endorsing the public interest of the San Antonio University Foundation and asking that it be recognized as such by the regional administration.
The letters have begun to be sent to the Ministry of Development and copies will be sent to the President of the Autonomous Community and the City of Murcia.
Subsequently, other initiatives that are being proposed to the teaching institution in defense of its work and legitimate rights will be carried out.
Among the writings received at the UCAM also include those of prominent national and international personalities from the world of research or sports, and they will be added in coming days sent by university workers, teachers and researchers, and administration staff and services.
Many workers of the UCAM, students and their families, companies and institutions have been showing their displeasure and indignation for the treatment that the Autonomous Community and the City of Murcia are giving to this institution, which they consider unfair and harmful, raising protest actions.
However, at the request of its President, they had been holding back waiting for the numerous problems to be solved.
However, given the irresponsible delay of politicians, leading to the worsening of problems, the UCAM, which has more than 20,000 students, and has 3,434 workers, has decided not to hinder them from defending their jobs and the economic stability of their families, passing on this concern to the public administration.
The signatories bring together tens of thousands of people
The writings show their support for the legitimate rights of the UCAM and the work that is being done in teaching, research, social or sports, generating as a consequence very important benefits, creation of employment and generation of wealth for society.
The writings that are being delivered now are collected in three days, from 10 to 12 of this month of April, before Holy Week, and those of the workers of the UCAM will be delivered next.
Public interest
The San Antonio de Murcia University Foundation, holder of the San Antonio de Murcia Catholic University, is a University Foundation, a non-profit organization, declared of Public Interest by the Spanish State by virtue of the Ministerial Order of June 27, 1988, published in the BOE of July 25, 1988.
The City of Murcia, at the request of the Ministry of Culture, decided to paralyze the expansion works of the Campus of the Jerónimos in its northern area, once the land had been leveled and urbanized in accordance with the current urban regulations and requested licenses of works for the first lecture halls, laboratories, sports facilities and student residence, with the consequent and very serious economic damages caused to the San Antonio de Murcia University Foundation as a result of said decision.
As a consequence of this, and in view of the need for spaces in which to provide their services properly to attend to their students, provisionally enabled demountable units on their land in the southern area, below the level of the base of the Monastery, which does not want to recognize the Autonomous community.
The legislation perfectly reflects the way of legalization of these pavilions, since the ordinary regime is perfectly compatible with the exceptional authorization by public interest, legitimate legalization technique, planned and regulated by the legal system.
In fact, the administration applies it frequently in the Region, even for buildings of private companies or activities not classified as of public interest, which is recognized by the UCAM by ministerial order, and even the General Plan of Urban Planning of Murcia considers "Educational Use" to be of "Public Interest".
Proof of this is the recognition by the regional administration in 2011 of public interest in relation to a building of the UCAM located a few meters from said pavilions, located in the same type of land and subject to the same urban planning conditions.
This unjust affront to the San Antonio University Foundation, along with others who have been suffering in terms of the implementation of new degrees, practices of their students of Medicine and Health Sciences, etc.
they have motivated the transfer to the regional and local administrations of the demand for recognition and respect, and their presentation to public opinion.
