Factoría Cultural and the City Council collaborate with the cultural growth of Barrio del Carmen with a free workshop on literature and videogames (30/04/2019)

The collaboration between the Department of Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs and Cultural Factory has allowed the organization of the workshop of literature and video games for young 'Tristana' to be held from 6 to 10 May from 4 to 8 pm at the Artistic Laboratory of the Carmen (Calle Priests Brothers Cerón, 5).

This activity is part of the project literature and video games 'Tristana for children and youth', subsidized by the General Directorate of Book and Reading Promotion.

The workshop is aimed at an audience of between 16 and 20 years and those interested can register for free through the website https://factoriacultural.es/producto/literatura-y-videojuegos-para-ninos-y-jovenes- de-murcia-tristana /

Taking into account that the period between 2018 and 2020 is a stage closely linked to Benito Pérez Galdós, in these workshops a tribute will be paid to this great author of Literature, working with Tristana.

Students will learn to work new narratives and turn a book into a video game.

They will make the structure, level and design schemes of the video game at the prototype level (drawn or programmed, according to the group's expertise and the type of game they propose).

Based on what has been learned in the course and in relation to the book and reference author, they will prepare the documentation, graphics and game elements necessary for its implementation outside the workshop as a complete videogame.

It is an eminently practical workshop, where the theoretical load is the corresponding one to understand the book or author in which it will be worked, its context and contemporary artistic and aesthetic manifestations around its work.

Based on this and some basic norms of videogame narrative, attendees will design their own levels and game scenarios, mechanics and speeches so that, once the workshop is finished, they can convert the results into a closed videogame ready for publication.

At the end of the course and thanks to the collaborative intelligence, a digital product created by the attendees will be obtained: a videogame playable from any computer and that will be accessible and free for any person.

With this activity, Factoría Cultural opens a space for reflection and dialogue on how the narrative of video games can be applied to artistic and cultural disciplines, encouraging citizen participation for the co-creation of projects and literary products.
