53 parcels of municipal property have been awarded this morning to their new owners who will allocate them to the cultivation of vegetables under self-consumption regime, without profit motive.
Currently, the municipality has 182 plots of land devoted to Leisure Gardens, with a total area of ​​17,800 m2, spread over 13 different areas.
The draw, which has had the assistance of the councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, Antonio Navarro, gives preference to those who are retired, pre-retired or unemployed, and can also opt for a plot of non-profit citizen entities with projects of social insertion.
Of these 182 plots, the current owners of 129 have opted to renew their concession, so that finally 53 plots have been included in the draw, of which 38 are newly created, located in Espinardo - in the Falcó Tower Lane, behind of the Young Futura Urbanization, and in the Tirocosa Garden, behind the Estrella de Levante- and El Palmar -in the Montevida Urbanization-.
The municipal leisure gardens are spaces prepared by the City Council and managed by the Environment Service for the cultivation of vegetables under self-consumption, non-profit, combining social, educational, environmental and heritage benefits, including conservation of local varieties in danger of extinction, the maintenance of an agroecosystem of great interest, such as the Huerta Antigua de Murcia, educational, training and dissemination, etc.
The orchards are awarded for a period of 2 years, with the option of renewal.
In addition, they can be visited by schools and associations in order to publicize the activities developed in them and instill values ​​about traditional and ecological agriculture.
